Bill Roundup: Focus on Operations

Two bills were introduced into the Senate Education Committee (SED) on Monday, June 6th. Both propose rules for school operations.

SED Chair Vin Gopal (D-11) introduced S2799, which “Requires school districts and nonpublic schools to develop emergency operations plans;” additionally, “requires school districts to provide instruction on environmental and natural disasters to students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12.”

Sen. Joseph Lagana (D-38) is the only sponsor on S2803, which “Provides that public school used as polling place shall not be open for classes on day of election.”

Neither of these bills gained a Criticality Rating, which designates bills that would would work toward an equitable, anti-racist, anti-oppressive transformation of society.
